There may be sun and mild temperatures instead of snow and cold, but Christmas in Marbella has its very own charm and appeal. Think roasted chestnuts, bright decorations, a lively shopping and social scene, and welcoming, cosy restaurants.
In Marbella, the annual lighting of the decorative Christmas lights this year took place on the 30th November, complete with a special 20-metre tall walk-through tree on Avenida del Mar. This fun event forms the official start of the festive season in town.
The prestigious School of Russian Ballet will perform the Nutcracker on the 14th and 15th of December at the Palacio de Congresos in the heart of Marbella. Tickets start at €20 per person.
Look out for the annual Christmas Eve, Day and New Year’s Eve parties at La Sala Puerto Banús, while the highlights among the Christmas markets are those at Puerto Banús – which will run from 5th December to 5th January – and the classic festive cheer of the La Virginia Christmas Market, which takes place on 8th December.
The first of December also saw the Adana Charity Xmas Fair at the Palacio de Congresos in Estepona, where a wide range of gifts, entertainment, food and music were on offer. And yes, as a pet welfare charity the event was open to pets too!
Come to the XV edition of the Bazar Solidario de Navidad, organised in favour of the Caritas Foundation at the Palacio de Congresos in Marbella. You will be supporting a great charity and having fun. The bazaar will be held from the 12th to the 15th December, from 11:00 to 22:00hrs.
For lovers of seasonal music there are charity concerts to enjoy, such as at the Castillo de Monda, where pianist and composer Susana Ikebana will be performing at an event in support of the Aladina Foundation on the 14th December.
